The Socio-Economic & Environmental Research Institute ( Seri) is organising a Lecture series on “Democratic Dreams in Asia: Opportunities and Obstacles” by Dr. Bridget Welsh, an Associate Professsor in Political Science at Singapore Management University.
Is democracy expanding or contracting in Asia? This discussion centers on trends in the expansion of political rights, electoral choice, and more democratic governance, drawing from the Asian regional experience as a whole. Special attention centers on the findings of the survey work of the Asia Barometer with a focus on the experience of Southeast Asia. Bridget Welsh will highlight both opportunities for and obstacles against achieving broader democracy.
