Posted on August 27, 2010

Samsung will be announcing its Android tablet , the Galaxy Tab at the IFA conference in Germany on 2 Sep. Rumours leaked indicates that this tablet could be available in Sept too in Malaysia  as one of the local PDA forumers has a test unit – more would be revealed by end August. Check up the discussion here .

This tablet will be an alternative to the hegemonic Apple iPad. Though its display is 2.7″ smaller but with the added options of USB port, front camera – its specs resemble closely to a netbook with no hard keyboard. Those who do not like Apple IPad hardware limitations and its closed and controlled O/S might find this Samsung Tab a very good alternative to the iPad, especially with the fast growing apps market.

The 7″ inch tablet is running Android 2.2, on a 1GHz processor (ARM8) which is the same processor on the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, a 800 x 480 resolution ( possibly 1024×600 )  , a 3.2MP rear webcam, a front facing webcam, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Flash and GPS. Based on video demo, Swype keyboard is one of the keyboard option.

In the video, the user shows off the size versus an iPad, uses Swype with the notepad app, watches video, reads a newspaper article and demo several features of Google Maps. If not for the size, you’d think the demo is on a Android 2.2 Smartphone , in this case the Galaxy S – all the features is exactly similar to the smartphone
