On 9 Sep, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor told secretaries-general of BN component parties that Umno would not back Perkasa or its president, Datuk Ibrahim Ali. He said any move to support Perkasa or its stand would only erode BN support among non-Malays. Tengku Adnan, who chaired the meeting  said the BN leaders also noted that distancing the coalition from Perkasa was best for the party as the organisation had on many occasions pitted components against one another.
He said, “Umno does not have anything to do with Perkasa as alleged by some. The other BN components welcome this stand. Being associated with Perkasa will only weigh the party down. This sentiment was shared by all component parties which are worried about feedback they have been getting from the grassroots,” he told the New Straits Times.

Perkasa’s chief Ibrahim Ali has immediately responded saying Perkasa doesn’t need UMNO support. He said “ we only needs the support of its members throughout the country and people who support our cause”

Today, The Star Online reported Minister in the Prime MInister Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said Ibrahim and others in Perkasa, including the Umno members supporting the group, were “desperados” using cheap political tactics and most Malays in the country were too clever to buy into their brand of politics.
He said , “The Umno members in Perkasa are rejects from our party and the leaders at all levels of Umno are with the Prime Minister and his 1Malaysia concept that is why we will never subscribe to Perkasa’s way of fighting for the rights of the Malays,” he said.

Wow ! Brave words from Nazri ! So I guess the following UMNO  supporters of Perkasa are now considered ” desperados” and ” rejects”

– Ex Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir, Deputy MITI Minister Muhkriz Mahathir, Deputy Finance Minister Awang Adek Hussin, former Perlis menteri besar Shahidan Kassim, ex-Perlis mufti Asri Zainal Abidin and Elections Commission deputy chairman Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, Umno’s Padang Besar parliamentarian Azmi Khalid, Deputy Education Minister Datuk Paud Zarkashi

I await with interest  to hear response from these UMNO supporters of Perkasa  tomorrow.

Many political analysts especially the Opposition had viewed the present ” split” between UMNO and Perkasa is just a ” sandiwara” ( a show ) to appease the non-Malays. Opposition leader Datuk Anwar Ibrahim have expressed scepticism asking whether this is UMNO’s policy or its political expediency, pointing out that UMNO had endorsed and supported the setup of Perkasa. PKR’s Batu MP Tian Chua do not believe UMNO’s actions  saying  ” It’s not for real…This is a game and Perkasa is irrelevant  “. Selangor Menteri Besar , Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim described the move by Umno as the “usual drama” which is being repeated.

Most interesting, in this drama between UMNO and Perkasa, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib is conspicously quiet ??
