Wef 15 December, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have introduced a new public cellular phone numbering format into the market. The new format – known as 3 + 8 format – begins with a 011 prefix and followed by eight digit.

The rationale behind this move is obvious – numbers are getting limited with the growth of mobile subscribers in the country.  There will be  no change to existing customers though since both the new and old numbering format will co-exist together.
