This tutorial guide is written for completely new users. It is a fully illustrated step by step guide. Just follow the steps strictly and you will find it is not a difficult task to upgrade your Tab 7.7 to the latest Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 rom. It is indeed sad that Samsung takes their own sweet time to release their latest official rom to the rest of the world. This rom upgrade is based on recent official release to Hong Kong users and it will work without any issues on any Tab 7.7 ( model P6800, with 3G/WiFi) irrespective of origin.
PRE-REQUISITES:
Galaxy Tab 7.7 , model P6800m ( 3G/WiFi ) : MAKE SURE it is at least 50% battery charge – preferably 70% and above
Windows XP or Windows 7 PC
You need to download first the following software
1. KIES 2.0 from : http://www.samsung.com/de/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP
Run the exe file ( Kies_2.3.2.12074_13_13.exe , a 90MB file ) to install the Samsung USB phone drivers on your PC
2. Download the HK ICS rom file from here : http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-P6800&pcode=TGY&os=1&type=3#firmware
The file name is P6800ZSLP7_P6800OZSLP7_TGY.zip ( 592 MB file). Extract the downloaded zip file in your PC to get the tar format file : P6800OZSLP7_P6800ZSLP7_HOME.tar.md5 ( 889 MB)
Copy this tar file to any location/or folder in your PC
3. Download ODIN 1.85 from HERE . Copy this file to your PC and run the exe file to get the Odin 1.85 exe file. This file is needed to launch the Odin flashing program
STEPS to flash rom :
Test PC connection to tab : Connect Tab to PC and allow auto detect and install of drivers. Do this only after you have install KIES. Shutdown KIES in PC and turn off all anti virus software
Once successfully detected, disconnect Tab and switched it off. Boot Tab to DOWNLOAD mode by simultaneously pressing VOL DOWN and POWER button. You will see this image:
Select VOL UP to continue and you will see :
Connect Tab to PC using the USB cable
Launch Odin 1.85. Tab will be recognised by PC and you will see the ID:COMM port ( at top left ) turn yellow with a port number. Your port number might differ from below screenshot
SELECT PDA and browse to where you have saved the file : P6800OZSLP7_P6800ZSLP7_HOME.tar.md5 – select it. ( the shot below shows another file just as an example only)
Press START. Odin will now flash the recovery file. After complete you will see this
The TAB will reboot after you see PASS in the Odin window
CONGRATS – you have just completed flashing the latest ICS rom on your Tab 7.7. The reboot time could take up to 5-8 mins – just be patient and wait for it to reboot successfully
LAST POINT : It’d be good practice to backup your stuffs before flashing
Refer my post on how to do backups :
https://leemn.wordpress.com/2012/08/27/how-to-backup-your-android-phone/
If you wish to ROOT and have CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY installed refer my blog post here :

Hi Benny, will this change my IMEI no? Cos I have an ori Papago M9 installed on my unit.
Also, if I wanted to go back to the original ROM, how do I do that? Also If we flashed this new ICS, and Malaysia did finally release the version here, do we update it to that and how?
Thanks
leemn
August 28, 2012
No it will not change your IMEI number
Same method , use odin in PC and flash the original rom tar fileor msian rom tar file . You can download these rom files from sammobile link i have listed – stock original rom is available there. When Msian rom is available it will be listed there too for download

Hi Benny, is it mandatory to have the virus protection to be turned off during the flashing period ?
Am using company laptop and the admin has disable the disable function 😦
Thanks

Preferably anti virus is turned off as is reported to affect the flashing process to some users
Many anti virus detect the rom file as virus infection

I just upgrade to ics as guided by mr. Benny Lee. Take 5 minute to complete the process with no problem at all. Tank for accurate information.

hi benny, gus perez here again, i tried downloading flash player 11 from adobe but, unfortunately, they stopped supporting the device since sept 15. how in the world can we android ics users watch streaming videos online? i think we may have to wait for a solution coming from the android community? i tried to downloading other flash players and it just wont work. im using a galaxy tab 7.7 and it was great on honeycomb, i thought ics is better, yes it is better on face and sensitivity but it lacks what matters most too – flash support.

Hello Benny, i bought my gtab 7.7 here in Saudi Arabia coz i work here. I’ve been waiting for ICS update but sadly until now i haven’t received any update. I do some research of manual installing of ics but i’m not confident in their instruction. I found your website and your instructions are simple, straight forward, and easy to follow. Now my questions is this firmware support arabic language? I bought it here in Saudi, so the firmware is applicable here also? Is there any bugs or problems? what if it failed in installing, can i still use my tab? I have a laptop but mostly i use my galaxy tab in internet, games, and watching movies so i’m quite afraid to manually install, i might brick it. sorry if i asked too many questions, i really like my tab.

its just impossible to use ics on video streaming, ive manually installed adobe flash player from my pc and copied it to my tab 7.7, and actually installed it from my tab. but when i tried one of the websites that uses flash, it just wont play. and one thing, while i use the browsers dolphin and chrome, while youre in middle of surfing, the browsers crashes and you have to open the browser again. Im thinking of going back to honeycomb, it hasnt had a problem on me before. its stable. I just thought the ICS is better since it is new. Im wrong. now, any tips on going back to honeycomb? thanks

Christine, what i did, from my laptop, i search from google “flash player for ics” it led me to a page where you can download adobe flash player 11. download it to your pc or laptop. then using the usb cable connect your tab and copy the file to your tab. Then install the flash player on your tab. I was not expecting any success since ive tried almost anything to do to install, but when i tried to open a movie site, it just played. I dont know if the issues between ics and adobe flash were mutually solved on the their standpoint, or is it because of the file i transferred to my tab. Hope you can solve it too..

Hello Stephen, I also flashed my Tab’s firmware coz I can’t wait for ICS update. If you’re tab is UAE model, just update it via kies, Samsung has already released its official ICS firmware in UAE. If not, you can still flash it using firmware from other regions. I’m using Saudi Arabia firmware before but when UAE has its official ICS released, I downloaded it and flashed it in my tab. So far I don’t experience any problem, there’s a huge improvement with ICS. Its faster, smoother, and no lag at all. I also install next launcher and my tab has reached a new level of usefulness. Just try it and follow the very easy instructions, you will never regret flashing it. Good luck.

Have you installed the latest version of kies? If kies recognized your tab then Odin can recognize it also. Just restart your laptop or PC then reconnect the tab, wait to install the drivers then if kies recognized your tab now, you can flash it using Odin.

Hello everyone, I just updated my galaxy tab 7.7 to jellybean 4.1.2. Although I bought it in Saudi Arabia and support Arabic language, the updated firmware was from Philippines. It has no Arabic language but I made a lots of googling and I found a solution. After updating jellybean using the latest version of Odin, I root it and install language enabler from play store. I can now use Arabic and English language in my keyboard and some in the os itslef. I even managed to increase its processor speed by using setcpu app. My tab moves to another level. Its more faster, buttery smooth, better keyboard, lots of tweaks to do, Google now is fun to use, and battery improves. If you want to update, please visit droidviews.com for more info both updating and rooting your galaxy tab 7.7. Nothing bad will happen to your tab, just follow the institutions and the correct firmware. If you want to root using Odin, u wil use a tar file, please uninstall winrar or any related program in your pc or laptop, Odin it will not recognize it as a tar file instead a zip file.
@Nave Pacheco, try to update your tab using firmware from the Philippines. I used globe firmware.

Thanks for the information regarding the ICS upgrade. I completed this without any issues – cheers!
I do have another issue with regards my contact database on my P6800. It has been currupted and used to take time to load, which is annoying when attempting to call quickly. With the new ICS installed this issue has become more pronounced where it is issuing a notice ‘Unfortunately, the process.android.acore has stopped’ is there any fix for this – I have tried Kies which does not load the contacts now – in the hope I could clear the contacts DB?
Would appreciate your thoughts but thanks regardless for your help.
